Cherry Crest Elementary

A couple of years back, elementary school teacher Brett Heinemann read the article written by former Sports Illustrated columnist Rick Reilly (now at ESPN) about the need for bed nets in Africa. He was immediately hooked on the idea of helping and wanted to find the appropriate time to get his students involved. When he presented the idea to the Cherry Crest Student Council, made up of 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students, the kids loved the idea.

The kids have spent several weeks learning about malaria and doing chores to raise money for nets and holding school-wide fundraisers. They have raised $2,900 to date, a total of 290 bed nets! The students will present this money to the Nothing But Nets team on Saturday, March 28th on the field at an Seattle Sounders FC match. But the students are not yet done! They plan to keep fundraising up until April 25th, World Malaria Day, and hope to surpass their goal of $4,000. We're so proud to have Cherry Crest Elementary School as one of our Champions!
