Kevin Vernimb is an 18-year-old from Bernardsville, NJ. He has been raising funds to send nets to Africa through the Nothing But Nets campaign for 4 years – setting up a NETraiser Team, selling golf balls, and educating his friends and family about the issue. To date, he has raised nearly $20,000!
Kevin joined the Nothing But Nets campaign at the World Malaria Day Eve Reception on April 24, 2008, where he had the opportunity to meet Rick Reilly and Sam Perkins as well as representatives from the NBA, MLS, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the UN Foundation. He gave everyone a card which invited people to join his NETraiser Team. Kevin says he plans to continue to raise funds for bed nets through college as he sees he can have an impact on this global issue.
On World Malaria Day in 2011, Kevin was featured in the Nothing But Nets Champions to End Malaria photo exhibit. Joined by champions including Secretary-General Ban Ki Moon, Dikembe Mutumbo, and others, Kevin helped unveil the exhibit at the United Nations Headquarters to show that anyone can be a champion in the fight against malaria. Kevin also participated in additional World Malaria Day activities including educating youth at a Newark Boys and Girls Club about the issue of malaria and how young people can have a big impact.
