Global Leaders and 7-year-old Netraiser Gather at the Clinton Global Initiative
Submitted by Adrianna Logalbo on October 2, 2008
The Clinton Global Initiative is an annual conference in New York City that brings together global leaders to address the world’s most pressing challenges. So it was no wonder that 7-year-old Katherine Commale, an MVP Nothing But Nets Netraiser, was there as well!
On Sept. 26, Katherine stood with President Bill Clinton, Kathy Calvin, Executive Vice President of the United Nation’s Foundation, David Stern, the Commissioner of the National Basketball Association, and Antonio Guterres, the High Commissioner of the UN High Commission for Refugees, to announce a new effort to raise funds for urgently needed nets for refugees in Africa.
Katherine began Netraising at age 5 and now, two years later, she has raised over $60,000. Click here to learn more about Katherine and her efforts to send nets and save lives.
With that type of leadership, it made perfect sense for Katherine to be standing with global leaders to make this important announcement. Malaria is the leading cause of illness and death among refugees in Africa. We can all learn from 7-year-old Katherine and help to protect a refugee from a deadly mosquito bite.
