Going back to my roots
Submitted by Elizabeth McKee Gore on February 13, 2008
On Sunday, February 3 , 2008 , I had the privilege of speaking to the congregation and youth of the First United Methodist Church in Whitesboro, Texas. The youth of this congregation hosted a booth at the yearly peanut festival to raise funds and awareness for the Nothing But Nets campaign. While I was at the church, the youth committed to hosting a car wash in the spring with other community leaders such as the mayor and the principal of Whitesboro High school. Looking out on the congregation was very special to me. I grew up attending this church every Sunday with my grandparents. I never thought I would be standing before them, thanking this very same community for sending nets and saving lives in Africa.
