As a major investor in Africa, ExxonMobil witnesses first-hand the health and economic impacts of malaria on our workforce, their families and the communities where we operate. In 2000, ExxonMobil Foundation launched its Africa Health Initiative to support disease prevention, control and treatment programs mainly focused on malaria.
In 2008, ExxonMobil partnered with Nothing But Nets, helping mobilize grassroots support to end malaria. In the same year, they launched a malaria awareness campaign in conjunction with the Roll Back Malaria Partnership, and aired a new ad on BBC World, during RBM's documentary about the Roll Back Malaria Zambezi Expedition. The ad was broadcast during the 2008 Beijing Olympics in the United States. Since then, ExxonMobil has continued its partnership with the campaign, helping to expand our outreach in the U.S. and our bed net distributions across the African continent.
