Nothing But Nets Comes to Denver!

World Malaria Day in Denver!

In March, Nothing But Nets traveled to Denver to work with its partners, including the National Basketball Association’s NBA Cares, Major League Soccer’s MLS W.O.R.K.S., and The United Methodist Church, among others, to excite and engage the people of Denver in the Campaign.  Below is information on the events we held:

Nothing But Nets in-arena night with the Denver Nuggets
Wednesday, April 16

  • Nothing But Nets cheered on the Denver Nuggets against the Memphis Grizzles!  During the game, the Denver Nuggets featured a number of Nothing But Nets activities, including a PSA promotion and a Nothing But Nets booth on the arena’s main concourse.

Saturday, April 18

  • The Colorado Rapids hosted a Nothing But Nets in-stadium night!  The Rapids faced off against the San Jose Earthquakes.  There were many Nothing But Nets activities throughout the game, including a PSA promotion and half-time presentation.

Nothing But Nets Press Conference and Proclamation
Wednesday, March 26, 10:30AM-11:00AM

  • Campaign partners were invited to join Nothing But Nets for a press conference with Governor Bill Ritter, Jr., Mayor John Hickenlooper, and United Nations Foundation President, former Senator Timothy E. Wirth to announce a city-wide commitment to combating malaria. As a part of this press conference, the week of March 24, 2008 was proclaimed “Nothing But Nets Week” in Denver, Colorado.

Faith Leaders Luncheon
Thursday, March 27, 12:00PM-1:30PM

  • Nothing But Nets co-hosted, in partnership with The Rocky Mountain Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church, an interfaith luncheon for faith and community leaders to pray for children and families who suffer from malaria and discuss the current issues and threats posed by this disease. United Methodist leadership, including Bishop Warner Brown, Jr., and Bishop Thomas J. Bickerton presented opportunities for faith communities to get involved in Nothing But Nets and the fight against malaria.

Nothing But Nets Malaria Workshop
Thursday, March 27, 3:00PM-5:00PM

  • The Denver Nuggets, Colorado Rapids, and Nothing But Nets hosted a community event to engage youth in malaria prevention. The event featured health experts and campaign partners, including participation from the Denver Nuggets and Colorado Rapids. This event aimed to encourage youth and others to work within their communities to help to prevent malaria by getting involved in Nothing But Nets.

  • Nothing But Nets appeared as a featured initiative as the Denver Nuggets faced off against the Dallas Mavericks! The evening included a number of Nothing But Nets activities, including a PSA promotion, a Nuggets Web site feature, and a Nothing But Nets booth on the arena’s main concourse. Come out and support Nothing But Nets while cheering on the Nuggets!

Nothing But Nets University Malaria Workshop
Friday, March 28, 5:00PM-7:00PM

  • Nothing But Nets brought University of Denver students together to participate in a two-hour workshop on malaria. The program featured health experts, campaign partners, as well as other special guests such as professional athletes, and encouraged students to work within their campus community to help prevent malaria by getting involved in Nothing But Nets.  E-mail malariaworkshop@www.nothingbutnets.net for more information!

  • The Colorado Rapids held a Nothing But Nets night during their season opener against the Los Angeles Galaxy! The game featured a number of Nothing But Nets activities, including a Nothing But Nets booth, PSA promotion, pre-game and half-time promotions, a Rapids Web site feature, in addition to much more.
